10/13/26 Self Love
One of the scariest things to do is to love yourself. There are so many reasons the world says “don’t do it”. “Don’t stay stagnant” “Don’t settle with yourself” “don’t become a narcissist”
The last one is my favorite. Narcissist has become the word of the day. Everyone is a narcissist and everyone is fearful of a narcissist. And yet, what most people don’t know, is deep underneath this mask of grandiosity, there is severe insecurity. This means, you are actually more susceptible to developing narcissistic traits if you don’t truly love and accept yourself.
When we feel shame about ourselves, it is all encompassing. It is hard to look outside of ourselves because we are so focused inwards. Shame creates disconnection. Love creates connection.
There are so many large corporations that benefit from our lack of love and disconnection: The beauty industry, the diet industry, the food industry, drug industry, hair, and clothing. In fact, many aspects of consumer culture benefit from not feeling good about ourselves. If we don’t feel good about ourselves, we might look externally to find things to feel better about ourselves, such as by purchasing a product.
One of the reasons it’s so hard to love yourself is because you are having to push up against inherent components of consumerism.
So how do you learn to love yourself?
